THE MESSAGE (MSG)
The story, the last teaching and ascension
of Jesus. "Wait until the power of the Spirit
comes upon you . . . then be my witnesses
in all the world."

 TO THE ENDS OF THE WORLD
1-5 Dear Theophilus, in the first volume of
this book I wrote on everything that Jesus
began to do and teach until the day he
said good-bye to the apostles, the ones
he had chosen through the Holy Spirit,
and was taken up to heaven. After his
death, he presented himself alive to them
in many different settings over a period
of forty days. In face-to-face meetings, he
talked to them about things concerning
the kingdom of God. As they met and ate
meals together, he told them that they
were on no account to leave Jerusalem
but "must wait for what the Father
promised: the promise you heard from
me. John baptized in water; you will be
baptized in the Holy Spirit. And soon."

6 When they were together for the last
time they asked, "Master, are you going
to restore the kingdom to Israel now? Is
this the time?"

7-8 He told them, "You don't get to know
the time. Timing is the Father's business.
What you'll get is the Holy Spirit. And
when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you
will be able to be my witnesses in
Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria,
even to the ends of the world."

9-11 These were his last words. As they
watched, he was taken up and disappeared
in a cloud. They stood there, staring into
the empty sky. Suddenly two men
appeared — in white robes! They said,
"You Galileans!— why do you just stand
here looking up at an empty sky? This
very Jesus who was taken up from among
you to heaven will come as certainly—and
mysteriously—as he left."

THE MESSAGE (MSG)
15-19 That's why, when I heard of the
solid trust you have in the Master Jesus
and your outpouring of love to all the
followers of Jesus, I couldn't stop
thanking God for you—every time I
prayed, I'd think of you and give thanks.
But I do more than thank. I ask—ask the
God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God
of glory—to make you intelligent and
discerning in knowing him personally,
your eyes focused and clear, so that you
can see exactly what it is he is calling you
to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious
way of life he has for his followers, oh, the
utter extravagance of his work in us who
trust him—endless energy, boundless
strength!

20-23 All this energy issues from Christ:
God raised him from death and set him on
a throne in deep heaven, in charge of
running the universe, everything from
galaxies to governments, no name and no
power exempt from his rule. And not just
for the time being, but forever. He is in
charge of it all, has the final word on
everything. At the center of all this, Christ
rules the church. The church, you see, is
not peripheral to the world; the world is
peripheral to the church. The church is
Christ's body, in which he speaks and
acts, by which he fills everything with his
presence.

YOU ARE THE WITNESSES
44 Then he said, "Everything I told you
while I was with you comes to this: All the
things written about me in the Law of
Moses, in the Prophets, and in the Psalms
have to be fulfilled."

45-49 He went on to open their under-
standing of the Word of God, showing
them how to read their Bibles this way. He
said, "You can see now how it is written
that the Messiah suffers, rises from the
dead on the third day, and then a total life-
change through the forgiveness of sins is
proclaimed in his name to all nations—
starting from here, from Jerusalem! You're
the first to hear and see it. You're the
witnesses. What comes next is very
important: I am sending what my Father
promised to you, so stay here in the city
until he arrives, until you're equipped with
power from on high."

50-51 He then led them out of the city over
to Bethany. Raising his hands he blessed
them, and while blessing them, took his
leave, being carried up to heaven.

52-53 And they were on their knees,
worshiping him. They returned to
Jerusalem bursting with joy. They spent
all their time in the Temple praising God.

• 1963 - Governor George Wallace vowed
to defy an injunction that ordered the
integration of the University of Alabama.
• 1970 - Zimbabwe came into existence. 
It was formerly known as Rhodesia.
• 1998 - A $124 million suit was brought
against Goodyear Tire and Rubber for
alleged discrimination towards black
workers.

• This was D-Day on Normandy, France in 

1944.  There were twelve countries that 
planned this landing organized to stop
the Nazi Empire.  The countries involved 
were England, Canada, Australia, Belgium, 
Greece, Free France, Netherlands, Poland,
Norway, New Zealand, Czechoslovakia, 
and United States.
There were 160,000 troops who crossed 
the English Channel that day.
400,000 Allied troops were involved.
The Allies achieved and maintained air
superiority, and specialized armor
worked well providing close artillery 
support for the troops as they 
disembarked onto the beaches.

 Even with this superiority, Allied casualties 
on the first day were at least 12,000 men 
with 4,414 confirmed dead. The enormity of 
the invasion is hardly comprehensible.

new Americas lands they had discovered

proposed to the Continental Congress a
resolution calling for a Declaration of
Independence.
• 1929 - The sovereign state of Vatican
City came into existence as copies of the
Lateran Treaty were exchanged in Rome.
• 1942 - The Battle of Midway ended. The
sea and air battle lasted 4 days. Japan lost
four carriers, a cruiser, and 292 aircraft,
and suffered 2,500 casualties. The U.S. lost
the Yorktown, the destroyer named USS
Hammann, 145 aircraft, and suffered 307
casualties.
• 1944 - Off of the coast of Normandy,
France, the Susan B. Anthony sank. All
2,689 people aboard survived.
