THE TWELFTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

COLOR: GREEN
Our lay leader today is Tom Cline.
About Tom Cline —

I design consumer electronics items for a living and
work in Trenton, Missouri during the week. We build
up to 400,000 electronic pest repelling units, right
here in north central Missouri (USA!!!), each year.
Before taking this job, I was active in the U.M.C. in
Dallas Center, which is where I would occasionally
do the message, this was while I held the Administrative
Board chair position. While in Missouri during the
week I attend and often lead a Wednesday night Bible
study at the S. Baptist Church.

Each 4th Friday evening of the month, I assist in
Des Moines with the Sparrow Ministry Chapel Service
at the Bethel Mission. I led this service quite a few
times when the Sparrow Ministry founder was unable
to be there. As for any ministering or preaching
certification(s), I have none. Just a lot of dedication to
the Lord and Savior I try to follow. The S.Baptist bunch
would dearly like to 'license' me after joining their
denomination. This will most likely not happen.

I used to be active in Dallas County, IA with the
organizing of 6 first responder teams including
procuring the grants and fund raising for training
and certification. I was active in the volunteer fire
dept for 22 years, holding all positions including
Chief for 3 years, training officer for 9 years. I
represented Dallas Center on the Dallas county
E911 board and Emergency Management board,
for many years. I served 4 years on the Dallas Center
City Council, during which time I wrote the Police
Standard Operating Procedures Manual and the
City's disaster plan.

Taking the job in Missouri has allowed me to 'retire'
from most of the above activities and focus on
apologetics. After saying all of that, I am still a work
in progress.

Anyone wishing to contact me can call 515-992-3875,
at the house in Dallas Center. The Dallas Center house
has an answering machine and is checked daily.
Darla is there, typically, each evening and several days
during the week.

Tom will enlighten us on the programs and services
provided by Bethel Mission in Des Moines.
The gospel readings Tom has chosen are:
MATTHEW 28:16-20 (New Living Translation) NLT
The Gospel concludes with the resurrection and
the commissioning of the disciples. The gospel
is
good news because it doesn't end with the
cross;
following Jesus demands from us all that
we are
and have, but gives us new and eternal
life in return.

THE GREAT COMMISSION
16 Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee,
going to the mountain where Jesus had told them
to go.
17 When they saw him, they worshiped him—but
some of them doubted!
18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have
been given all authority in heaven and on earth.
19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the
commands I have given you. And be sure of this:
I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”———————————————————————
1 PETER 3:12-17
(Contemporary English Version) CEV
Though Christians cannot always be exactly of

the same mind, they should have compassion
one of another, and love as brethren. If any man
desires to live comfortably on earth, or to
possess
eternal life in heaven, he must bridle
his tongue
from wicked, abusive, or deceitful
words. He must
forsake and keep far from evil
actions, do all the
good he can, and seek peace
with all men.

12 The Lord watches over
everyone who obeys him,
and he listens
to their prayers.
But he opposes everyone
who does evil."

13 Can anyone really harm you for being eager
to do good deeds?
14 Even if you have to suffer for doing good things,
God will bless you. So stop being afraid and don't
worry about what people might do.
15 Honor Christ and let him be Lord of your life.
Always be ready to give an answer when someone
asks you about your hope.
16 Give a kind and respectful answer and keep
your conscience clear. This way you will make
people ashamed for saying bad things about
your good conduct as a follower of Christ.
17 You are better off to obey God and suffer for
doing right than to suffer for doing wrong.

LUKE 20: 9-26
(New International Reader's Version) NIRV

THE STORY OF THE RENTERS
9 Jesus went on to
tell the people a story. "A man
planted a vineyard,"
he said. "He rented it out to
some farmers. Then
he went away for a long time.
10 "At harvest time he sent a servant to the renters.
They were supposed to give him some of the fruit
of the vineyard. But the renters beat the servant.
Then they sent him away with nothing.
11 So the man sent another servant. They beat
that one and treated him badly. They also sent him
away with nothing.
12 The man sent a third servant. The renters
wounded him and threw him out.
13 "Then the owner of the vineyard said,
'What should I do? I have a son, and I love him.
I will send him. Maybe they will respect him.'
14 "But when the renters saw the son, they talked
the matter over. 'This is the one who will receive
all the owner's property someday,' they said.
'Let's kill him. Then everything will be ours.'
15 So they threw him out of the vineyard.
And they killed him.
"What will the owner of the vineyard do to the
renters?
16 He will come and kill them. He will give the
vineyard to others."
When the people heard this, they said,
"We hope this never happens!"
17 Jesus looked right at them and said,
"Here is something I want you to explain the
meaning of. It is written,
" 'The stone the builders didn't accept
has become the most important stone of all.'
—(Psalm 118:22)
18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be
broken to pieces. But the stone will crush anyone
it falls on."
19 The teachers of the law and the chief priests
looked for a way to arrest Jesus at once. They
knewhe had told that story against them. But
they were afraid of the people.
IS IT RIGHT TO PAY TAXES TO CAESAR?
20 The religious leaders sent spies to keep a
close watch on Jesus. The spies pretended to
be honest. They hoped they could trap Jesus
with something he would say. Then they could
hand him over to the authority of the governor.
21 So the spies questioned Jesus. "Teacher," they
said, "we know that you speak and teach what is
right. We know you don't favor one person over
another. You teach the way of God truthfully.
22 Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"
23 Jesus saw they were trying to trick him. So he
said to them,
24 "Show me a silver coin. Whose picture and
words are on it?"
25 "Caesar's," they replied.
He said to them, "Then give to Caesar what
belongs to Caesar. And give to God what belongs
to God."
26 They were not able to trap him with what he had
said there in front of all the people. Amazed by his
answer, they became silent.

The Sunday School Kick-Off for Casey UMC is
planned for September 13th. It would be great to
have the choir sing some of the great old Sunday
School songs as a way of bringing in what happens
before worship service.

Age 3 to 2nd grade in the north-east room,
2nd grade - 6th grade in the south east room.
Choir will practice in the sanctuary, and

shared with the kitchen available for hospitality
before worship.

story, craft, service project, and other activities.
We are all set for most groups but, we need a lead
teacher for the pre-school to 2nd grade group.
