SUNDAY, MARCH 15TH —
Our Color is Purple
Sundays “in” Lent are not days “of” Lent. They are
not counted as part of the forty days of Lent. They
are more like little Easters.
—————————————————————————
Our Memory Verse for today is:
Romans 3:23 “Witnessing”
“Come follow me,” Jesus said,
“And I will make you fishers of men.”—————————————————————————
Our Scripture Readings for today are:
EXODUS 20:17 (Amplified Bible)
Important identity statement: "I am the Lord your
God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt,
out of the house of slavery."
1 THEN GOD spoke all these words:
2 I am the Lord your God, Who has brought you out of the
land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.3 You shall have no other gods before or besides Me.
4 You shall not make yourself any graven image, to
worship it or any likeness of anything that is in the heavens
above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water
under the earth;
5 You shall not bow down yourself to them or serve them;
for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the
iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and
fourth generation of those who hate Me,
6 But showing mercy and steadfast love to a thousand
generations of those who love Me and keep My
commandments.
7 You shall not use or repeat the name of the Lord your
God in vain, that is, lightly or frivolously, in false
affirmations or profanely; for the Lord will not hold him
guiltless who takes His name in vain.
8 Earnestly remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
10 But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your
God; in it you shall not do any work, you, or your son,
your daughter, your manservant, your maidservant,
your domestic animals, or a sojourner within your gates.
11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the
earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the
seventh day. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath
day and hallowed it as set it apart for His purposes.
12 Regard (treat with honor, due obedience, courtesy)
your father and mother, that your days may be long in
the land the Lord your God gives you.
13 You shall not commit murder.
14 You shall not commit adultery.
15 You shall not steal.
16 You shall not witness falsely against your neighbor.
17 You shall not covet your neighbor's house, your
neighbor's wife, or his manservant, or his maidservant,
his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.

PSALM 19 (New International Version) (UMH 750)
A psalm declaring Creation's praise of God and our
praise of God's instruction.
A psalm of David
1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they display knowledge.
3 There is no speech or language
where their voice is not heard.
4 Their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun,5 which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion,
like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
6 It rises at one end of the heavens
and makes its circuit to the other;
nothing is hidden from its heat.
7 The law of the LORD is perfect,
reviving the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the LORD are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
9 The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever.
The ordinances of the LORD are sure
and altogether righteous.
10 They are more precious than gold,
than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
than honey from the com
11 By them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.
12 Who can discern his errors?
Forgive my hidden faults.
13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;
may they not rule over me.
Then will I be blameless,
innocent of great transgression.
14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my
heartbe pleasing in your sight,
O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

1 CORINTHIANS 1:18-25 (Amplified Bible)
Paul notes what must have been obvious - - proclaiming a crucified man as Messiah and Savior creates difficulties for all people, Jewish or Gentile. But for those who "get it," it is a powerful, life-changing message that opens up a new understanding of God and the world.
18 For the story and message of the cross is sheer absurdity and folly to those who are perishing and on their way to perdition, but to us who are being saved it is the manifestation of the power of God.
19 For it is written, I will baffle and render useless and destroy the learning of the learned and the philosophy of the philosophers and the cleverness of the clever and the discernment of the discerning; I will frustrate and nullify them and bring them to nothing.
20 Where is the wise man the philosopher? Where is the scribe the scholar? Where is the investigator the logician, the debater of this present time and age? Has not God shown up the nonsense and the folly of this world's wisdom?
21 For when the world with all its earthly wisdom failed to perceive and recognize and know God by means of its own philosophy, God in His wisdom was pleased through the foolishness of preaching salvation, procured by Christ and to be had through Him, to save those who believed, who clung to and trusted in and relied on Him.
22 For while Jews demandingly ask for signs and miracles and Greeks pursue philosophy and wisdom,
23 We preach Christ the Messiah crucified, preaching which to the Jews is a scandal and an offensive stumbling block that springs a snare or trap, and to the Gentiles it is absurd and utterly unphilosophical nonsense.
24 But to those who are called, whether Jew or Greek Gentile, Christ is the Power of God and the Wisdom of God.
25 This is because the foolish thing that has its source in God is wiser than men, and the weak thing that springs from God is stronger than men.

JOHN 2:13-22 (New Living Translation)
Jesus makes Temple worship impossible at the busiest
time of the year - the Passover sacrifice. He confronts
those who had turned the Temple courtyard into a
marketplace, and they ask him what sign of authority he
has for doing this. He tells them, "Destroy this temple,
and in three days I will raise it up." He released
thousands of animals into the streets, overturned tables
of the moneychangers, and offered the strongest words
of justification for such obviously hostile action.
Jesus Clears the Temple
13 It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration, so Jesus went to Jerusalem.
14 In the Temple area he saw merchants selling cattle, sheep, and doves for sacrifices; he also saw dealers at tables exchanging foreign money.
15 Jesus made a whip from some ropes and chased them all out of the Temple. He drove out the sheep and cattle, scattered the money changers’ coins over the floor, and turned over their tables.16 Then, going over to the people who sold doves, he told them, “Get these things out of here. Stop turning my Father’s house into a marketplace!”
17 Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: “Passion for God’s house will consume me.”
18 But the Jewish leaders demanded, “What are you doing? If God gave you authority to do this, show us a miraculous sign to prove it.”
19 “All right,” Jesus replied. “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
20 “What!” they exclaimed. “It has taken forty-six years to build this Temple, and you can rebuild it in three days?”
21 But when Jesus said “this temple,” he meant his own body.
22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered he had said this, and they believed both the Scriptures and what Jesus had said.

This is St. Patrick's DaySt. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and March 17th
is his national day. St. Patrick was captured by pirates
when he was a boy and spent six years as a slave
before he was able to escape. He trained as a missionary
and went to Ireland to convert the Irish to Christianity.
Ireland is famous for not having any snakes on the island
and the Irish believe that it was St Patrick who drove
them all away.

Thank you for picking up the load and carrying it without
complaint. You have been a great help to your church.
God Bless and Keep You,
