PET PROJECT—
Mission Focus is on the "Pet (Personal Energy Transportation) Project." These small, simple vehicles are used to give injured or invalid people a way to become mobile.
Designed for use in developing areas with few or no paved roads, PET resembles a three wheeled, low riding, hand cranked bicycle. They are simply constructed of steel and wood with three wheel barrow wheels to navigate rough terrain. Users turn the cranks by hand and can move along at about 3 miles per hour. There is a simple hand brake.
The gift of mobility makes it possible for people who can't walk, to attend school, seek medical care, start businesses, and recover their dignity.

PET International was begun in 1994 by a Methodist minister named Mel West. He built the vehicles in his garage after learning about land mine victims and polio victims who were bedfast because they had no way to get around. Each unit costs about $250 to build and ship. For more information go to www.petinternational.org, or send a message to pet@petinternational.org.
