THURSDAY, APRIL 22ND —
»»»»»» EARTH DAY ««««««A book that caught my eye is called:
"DIRT, THE ECSTATIC SKIN OF EARTH"
Mr. Logan reminds us of what a fragile skin of soil
makes human life on this planet possible.
"The truth is that we don't know much about dirt.
We don't even know where it comes from. All we
can say is that it doesn't come from here. Our sun
is too young and cool to manufacture any element
heavier than helium. We are all stardust. In fact,
everything is stardust."
William Logan

starvation.” ~ Bard of Cincinnati
• “We all should fall upon our knees and sing out praise
for manganese.” ~ Richmond Bartlett
• The plain truth is that sophisticated Americans, as a
people, have never learned to love the land and to
regard it as an enduring resource.” ~ Hugh H. Bennett

that its flesh is the soil.” ~ Leonardo da Vinci* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

SUNDAY, APRIL 25TH —
THE FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
COLOR WHITE
CALLED "GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY" because the
gospel readings come from JOHN 10, and
THE 23RD PSALM IS ALWAYS USED.
EASTER CONTINUES ON THROUGH THE
DAY OF PENTECOST (MAY 23).
This is a season to celebrate the resurrection, and
journey into the Mystery.

ACTS 9:36-43 (The Message)
We see Tabitha's works of charity to all in her local
community, symbolized in the clothing she made
for widows. Tabitha is a witness of the risen Christ
through her good works, her acts of charity, and
through being raised from death herself.

36 Down the road a way in Joppa there was a disciple
named Tabitha, "Gazelle" in our language. She was
well-known for doing good and helping out.37 During the time Peter was in the area she became
sick and died. Her friends prepared her body for burial
and put her in a cool room.
38 Some of the disciples had heard that Peter was
visiting in nearby Lydda and sent two men to ask if he
would be so kind as to come over.
39 Peter got right up and went with them. They took
him into the room where Tabitha's body was laid out.
Her old friends, most of them widows, were in the room
mourning. They showed Peter pieces of clothing the
Gazelle had made while she was with them.
40 Peter put the widows all out of the room. He knelt
and prayed. Then he spoke directly to the body:
"Tabitha, get up."
41 He took her hand and helped her up. Then he called
in the believers and widows, and presented her to them
alive.42 When this became known all over Joppa, many put
their trust in the Master.
43 Peter stayed on a long time in Joppa as a guest of
Simon the Tanner.

PSALM 23 (UMH 754 or 137) (The Message)
The Lord is my shepherd.
1 God, my shepherd! I don't need a thing.
2 You have bedded me down in lush meadows, you
find me quiet pools to drink from.3 True to your word, you let me catch my breath and
send me in the right direction.
4 Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I'm
not afraid when you walk at my side. Your trusty
shepherd's crook makes me feel secure.5 You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my
enemies. You revive my drooping head; my cup brims
with blessing.
6 Your beauty and love chase after me every day of
my life. I'm back home in the house of God for the rest
of my life.

REVELATION 7:9-17 (The Message)
We find myriad people robed in white, singing
the praises of God and the Lamb. Their bold
praise was not what got them robed in white.
Rather, we are told it was the actions of their
lives. The works of disciples of Jesus are
characterized by entering into Christ's suffering
and the suffering of the world.

9 I looked again. I saw a huge crowd, too huge to
count. Everyone was there - all nations and tribes,
all races and languages. And they were standing,
dressed in white robes and waving palm branches,
standing before the Throne and the Lamb10 and heartily singing: Salvation to our God on his
Throne! Salvation to the Lamb!
11 All who were standing around the Throne - Angels,
Elders, Animals - fell on their faces before the Throne
and worshiped God,
12 singing: Oh, Yes! The blessing and glory and
wisdom and thanksgiving, The honor and power and
strength, To our God forever and ever and ever! Yes!
13 Just then one of the Elders addressed me: "Who
are these dressed in white robes, and where did they
come from?"
14 Taken aback, I said, "O Sir, I have no idea - but you
must know."
15 That's why they're standing before God's Throne.
They serve him day and night in his Temple. The One
on the Throne will pitch his tent there for them:
16 no more hunger, no more thirst, no more scorching
heat.
17 The Lamb on the Throne will shepherd them, will
lead them to spring waters of Life. And God will wipe
every last tear from their eyes."

JOHN 10:22-30 (The Message)
The leaders want to trap Jesus, to force him to
state
he is the Messiah on their terms. Jesus
refuses and
he proceeds to make more provocative
claims. The
leaders refuse to believe him. His works
are strong
evidence both that he is doing the
Father's will and
that they (the leaders) are not.
Jesus is the Good Shepherd whose works show
the
nature of the father, and whose disciples' works
testify
that Jesus is the Messiah, the Anointed One.22 They were celebrating Hanukkah just then in
Jerusalem. It was winter.
23 Jesus was strolling in the Temple across Solomon's
Porch.
24 The Jews, circling him, said, "How long are you going
to keep us guessing? If you're the Messiah, tell us
straight out."25 Jesus answered, "I told you, but you don't believe.
Everything I have done has been authorized by my
Father, actions that speak louder than words.
26 You don't believe because you're not my sheep.
27 My sheep recognize my voice. I know them, and
they follow me.
28 I give them real and eternal life. They are protected
from the Destroyer for good. No one can steal them from
out of my hand.
29 The Father who put them under my care is so much
greater than the Destroyer and Thief. No one could ever
get them away from him.
30 I and the Father are one heart and mind."
