SCRIPTURE READINGS ARE —

2 SAMUEL 23:1-7
(Amplified Bible) AB
David's final song: "One who rules over the people
justly... is like the light of the morning, the rising
sun of a cloudless morning glistening off the dew."

How might justice for us be like "the rising sun
glistening off the morning dew"?

DAVID'S LAST WORDS —
1 NOW THESE are the last words of David:
David son of Jesse says, and the man who was
raised on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob,
and the sweet psalmist of Israel, says,
2 The Spirit of the Lord spoke in and by me, and
His word was upon my tongue.
3 The God of Israel spoke, the Rock of Israel said
to me, When one rules over men righteously, ruling
in the fear of God,
4 He dawns on them like the morning light when the
sun rises In a cloudless sky, when the tender grass
springs out of the earth through clear shining dew,
after the rain.
5 Truly does not my house stand so with God? For
He has made with me an everlasting covenant,
ordered in all things, and sure. For will He not cause
to prosper all my help and my desire?
6 But wicked, godless, and worthless lives are all like
thorns to be thrust away, because they cannot be
taken with the hand.
7 But the man who touches them arms himself with
iron and the shaft of a spear, and they are utterly
consumed with fire on the spot.–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
PSALM 132:1-12 (UMH 849)

DAVID'S CARE FOR THE ARK
A plea to God to remember David's devotion in
wishing to build a temple for God,
and God's promise to sustain David's line if his
descendants kept God's covenant.
David bound himself to find a place for the Lord,
for the ark, the token of God's presence.
It is good in the morning to fix upon work for the
day, for we know not what a day may bring forth.
A SONG FOR PILGRIMS
ASCENDING TO JERUSALEM

1 Lord, remember David
and all that he suffered.
2 He made a solemn promise to the Lord.
He vowed to the Mighty One of Israel,
3 “I will not go home;
I will not let myself rest.
4 I will not let my eyes sleep
nor close my eyelids in slumber
5 until I find a place to build a house for the Lord,
a sanctuary for the Mighty One of Israel.”
6 We heard that the Ark was in Ephrathah;
then we found it in the distant countryside of Jaar.7 Let us go to the sanctuary of the Lord;
let us worship at the footstool of his throne.
8 Arise, O Lord, and enter your resting place,
along with the Ark, the symbol of your power.9 May your priests be clothed in godliness;
may your loyal servants sing for joy.
10 For the sake of your servant David,
do not reject the king you have anointed.
11 The Lord swore an oath to David
with a promise he will never take back:
“I will place one of your descendants
on your throne.
12 If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant
and the laws that I teach them,
then your royal line
will continue forever and ever.”

CHRIST BEFORE PILATE
Art thou the King of the Jews? That King of the
Jews
who has been so long expected? Messiah
the Prince;
art thou he? Dost thou call thyself so,
and wouldest
thou be thought so? Christ gave an
account of the
nature of his kingdom. Its nature
is not worldly; it is a
kingdom within men, set up
in their hearts and
consciences; its riches spiritual,
its power spiritual,
and it glory within. Pilate asks
"What is truth?"
For Pilate,"Truth" could not exist
apart from the mix
of power interests that backed
it up. Truth was thus
always a kind of game, its
contours and sometimes
its essence shifting with
the winds of power.

Truth is the "new commandment" Jesus gave his
disciples: "Love one another as I have loved you."
Look for and listen to the signs of God's love
active
in the world, and you will see and hear the
Truth that
shapes and changes everything. This is the Truth of Christ's kingship.

33 Then Pilate went back into his headquarters and
called for Jesus to be brought to him. “Are you the king
of the Jews?” he asked him.
34 Jesus replied, “Is this your own question, or did
others tell you about me?”35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate retorted. “Your own people and
their leading priests brought you to me for trial.
Why? What have you done?”
36 Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not an earthly
kingdom. If it were, my followers would fight to keep
me from being handed over to the Jewish leaders.
But my Kingdom is not of this world.”
37 Pilate said, “So you are a king?”
Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I
was born and came into the world to testify to the truth.
All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.”

Thank you for the hard work, time and energy that
you contributed to our church life this last two
weeks. I know, you sometimes feel you are meeting
yourself at the door, but you really do keep the
wheels on. Sometimes I'm amazed at all you can
accomplish. Thank you again.

God Bless and Keep You,
Pastor Lynn
