REMINDERS —

CONFIRMATION CLASS will meet in Casey UMC from 6 P.M. till 7:30 P.M. Many thanks to Sheryl, Susan,
Gretchen, and Frankie for the great lunches you have provided. They have been exactly what is needed. Just simple foods like sloppy joes, chicken nuggets, and lasagna. If any of you would be able to bring a light lunch for 9-10 people, I know they would love it. Thanks again ladies for your wonderful contribution.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31ST—Homeland Security has issued a special bulletin applicable on this day. We are to watch for organized groups of little people disguised as various unsavory characters and behaving in an absolutely unpredictable and erratic manner. It is believed the perpetrators don these disguises to cause unprecedented fright among the citizens of our country. Fortunately, we can dissuade them from causing great mischief merely by giving them candy. It is recommended, simply as a security measure, that you keep a small arsenal of candy close by on this day - just in case you are approached by a band of these little perpetrators. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1ST —

TODAY IS ALL SAINTS' DAY. It is celebrated all over the world and it's purpose is to remember all of the good people who have lived here before us. All Saints' Day is a major feast day historically in the life of the church. If you have no traditions for this day, just take time to remember those who came before, who have taught us, and loved us, and sent us in the right direction; those who are now in "the company of heaven

Our Scripture Readings for today are:
Joshua 3:7-17 Amplified Bible (AMP)
After receiving detailed instructions from God, Joshua told the people of Israel how they would cross the Jordan River. The priests who carried the Ark of the Covenant took the lead. At the same time they stepped into the river, the water stopped flowing upstream, allowing the people to cross on dry ground.7 The Lord said to Joshua, This day I will begin to magnify you in the sight of all Israel, so they may know that as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.

8 You shall command the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, When you come to the brink of the waters of the Jordan, you shall stand still in the Jordan.

9 Joshua said to the Israelites, Come near, hear the words of the Lord your God.

10 Joshua said, Hereby you shall know that the living God is among you and that He will surely drive out from before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites.

11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is passing over before you into the Jordan!

12 So now take twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe.

13 When the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the Lord of all the earth shall rest in the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan coming down from above shall be cut off and they shall stand in one heap.

14 So when the people set out from their tents to pass over the Jordan, with the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people,

15 And when those who bore the ark had come to the Jordan and the feet of the priests bearing the ark were in the brink of the water--for the Jordan overflows all its banks throughout the time of harvest--

16 Then the waters which came down from above stood and rose up in a heap far off, at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan; and those flowing down toward the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt [Dead] Sea, were wholly cut off. And the people passed over opposite Jericho.

17 And while all Israel passed over on dry ground, the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan, until all the nation finished passing over the Jordan.

Psalm 107:1-7, 33-37 (UMH 830)
1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
his love endures forever.

2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say this—
those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,

3 those he gathered from the lands,
from east and west, from north and south. [a]

4 Some wandered in desert wastelands,
finding no way to a city where they could settle.

5 They were hungry and thirsty,
and their lives ebbed away.

6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress.

7 He led them by a straight way
to a city where they could settle.

Psalm 107:33-37

33 He turned rivers into a desert,
flowing springs into thirsty ground,

34 and fruitful land into a salt waste,
because of the wickedness of those who lived there.

35 He turned the desert into pools of water
and the parched ground into flowing springs;

36 there he brought the hungry to live,
and they founded a city where they could settle.

37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards
that yielded a fruitful harvest;

1 Thessalonians 2:9-13 Amplified Bible (AMP)
Paul fondly recalls the way that the Thessalonians received him and the gospel he preached. Although he and his ministry colleagues were received well, they worked diligently to add no burden to the people. The people gladly heard and received the gospel.
9 For you recall our hard toil and struggles, brethren. We worked night and day and plied our trade in order not to be a burden to any of you for our support while we proclaimed the glad tidings (the Gospel) of God to you.

10 You are witnesses, yes and God also, how unworldly and upright and blameless was our behavior toward you believers who adhered to and trusted in and relied on our Lord Jesus Christ.

11 For you know how, as a father dealing with his children, we used to exhort each of you personally, stimulating and encouraging and charging you

12 To live lives worthy of God, Who calls you into His own kingdom and the glorious blessedness into which true believers will enter after Christ's return.

13 And we also especially thank God continually for this, that when you received the message of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of mere men, but as it truly is, the Word of God, which is effectually at work in you who believe exercising its superhuman power in those who adhere to and trust in and rely on it.

Matthew 23:1-12
Amplified Bible (AMP). Continuing his public teaching in the temple, Jesus warned the crowd and his disciples about the duplicity of the powerful Pharisees. By contrast, he admonished those present to engage in different practices: honoring only God, following only one rabbi (Jesus), referring to one another as siblings, servants and students, and humility rather than self-importance.
