Sunday, May 25th — 2nd Sunday after Pentecost/in Kingdomtide. Our chosen color today is green. Green is the color of plant life, abundant in spring. It is used to represent the triumph of life over death. Green is the liturgical color for the Sundays after Pentecost.

Our Scripture Readings for this Sunday are:
Psalm 62:1-5 (UMH 787)
1 Corinthians 4:1-5
Matthew 6:24-34We are focusing on a Memorial Day observance today. We remember all men and women who have sacrificed their time, their energies, and in many cases their lives, in the name of freedom. When a loved one is lost in combat, the family has made a very profound sacrifice as well. A sacrifice they will remember every time they look at his empty chair.

Mankind has fought wars for most of his existence. We always go in with swords flashing and adrenaline running high. We always come out exhausted, disillusioned, saddened, and broken - even when we win.
We always say "Never again", but it seems each new generation must relearn the very same scenario - over and over. Human rights may be centered on the freedom of religion, social freedoms, class freedom or just plain freedom from tyranny. Freedom is a rare and precious commodity that must always be respected and protected. Perhaps one day that will be universally understood and then we will find war an archaic concept.
