FRIDAY, MARCH 4TH —
WORLD DAY OF PRAYER
The 2011 focus of this Day of Prayer is Chile.Chili endured a devastating earthquake in
February,
2010, then an 8.8 magnitude earth-
quake in central
Chile at 3:30 A.M. February
27, which created a
tsunami that ravaged a
435-mile stretch of Chile's
Pacific coast.
More than 800 lives were lost.

Many prayers were lifted up for the Chilean
miners rescued after 69 days underground in
a collapsed mine, one mile down! They were
all rescued. Chili is focusing on the very real
situations of life and community.

This is not to say we have no other areas of the
world to pray about.
Pray for the countries whose leaders have not yet
accepted that the day of dictators and autocrats
keeping all knowledge of the outside world from their
own subjects is gone.

HOLY COMMUNION TODAY

Scripture Readings:
EXODUS 24:12–18
(The Message)
God calls Moses up on the mountain, and
Moses enters the cloud of God's glory.

12 God said to Moses, "Climb higher up the
mountain and wait there for me; I'll give you tablets
of stone, the teachings and commandments that
I've written to instruct them."
13 So Moses got up, accompanied by Joshua his
aide. And Moses climbed up the mountain of God.
14 He told the elders of Israel, "Wait for us here
until we return to you. You have Aaron and Hur
with you; if there are any problems, go to them."
15 Then Moses climbed the mountain.
The Cloud covered the mountain. 16 The Glory of God settled over Mount Sinai. The
Cloud covered it for six days. On the seventh day
he called out of the Cloud to Moses.
17 In the view of the Israelites below, the Glory of
God looked like a raging fire at the top of the mountain.18 Moses entered the middle of the Cloud and climbed
the mountain. Moses was on the mountain forty days
and forty nights.

PSALM 99 (UMH 819)
(The Message)
1 God rules. On your toes, everybody! He rules from
his angel throne - take notice!
2 God looms majestic in Zion, He towers in splendor
over all the big names.
3 Great and terrible your beauty: let everyone praise
you! Holy. Yes, holy.
4 Strong King, lover of justice, You laid things out fair
and square; You set down the foundations in Jacob,
Foundation stones of just and right ways.
5 Honor God, our God; worship his rule! Holy. Yes, holy.
6 Moses and Aaron were his priests, Samuel among
those who prayed to him. They prayed to God and he
answered them;
7 He spoke from the pillar of cloud. And they did what
he said; they kept the law he gave them.
8 And then God, our God, answered them (But you were
never soft on their sins).
9 Lift high God, our God; worship at his holy mountain.
Holy. Yes, holy is God our God.

2 PETER 1:16–21
(The Message)
We move from the mountain where Jesus offered
the sermon we've been listening to for five weeks,
to another where Jesus is transfigured and a few
of his disciples get a glimpse of his true glory.
Peter says, "We had been eyewitnesses of his
majesty. We were with him on the holy mountain.
So we have the prophetic message more fully

confirmed." The voice from heaven clearly
instructs
Peter, James, and John NOT to set up
shrines to
commemorate this event.
16 We weren't, you know, just wishing on a star
when we laid the facts out before you regarding the
powerful return of our Master, Jesus Christ. We were
there for the preview! We saw it with our own eyes:
17Jesus resplendent with light from God the Father
as the voice of Majestic Glory spoke: "This is my Son,
marked by my love, focus of all my delight."
18 We were there on the holy mountain with him.
We heard the voice out of heaven with our very
own ears.
19 We couldn't be more sure of what we saw and
heard - God's glory, God's voice.
The prophetic Word was confirmed to us. You'll do
well to keep focusing on it. It's the one light you have
in a dark time as you wait for daybreak and the rising
of the Morning Star in your hearts.
20 The main thing to keep in mind here is that no
prophecy of Scripture is a matter of private opinion.
21 And why? Because it's not something concocted
in the human heart. Prophecy resulted when the Holy
Spirit prompted men and women to speak God's Word.

MATTHEW 17:1–9 (The Message)
Matthew's account of the Transfiguration.
1 Six days later, three of them saw that glory. Jesus
took Peter and the brothers, James and John, and
led them up a high mountain.
2 His appearance changed from the inside out, right
before their eyes. Sunlight poured from his face. His
clothes were filled with light.3 Then they realized that Moses and Elijah were also
there in deep conversation with him.
4 Peter broke in, "Master, this is a great moment!
What would you think if I built three memorials here
on the mountain - one for you, one for Moses,
one for Elijah?"
5 While he was going on like this, babbling, a
light-radiant cloud enveloped them, and sounding
from deep in the cloud a voice: "This is my Son,
marked by my love, focus of my delight.
Listen to him."
6 When the disciples heard it, they fell flat on
their faces, scared to death.
7 But Jesus came over and touched them.
"Don't be afraid."
8 When they opened their eyes and looked
around all they saw was Jesus, only Jesus.
9 Coming down the mountain, Jesus swore
them to secrecy. "Don't breathe a word of what
you've seen. After the Son of Man is raised from
the dead, you are free to talk."

I am very proud to announce that my daughter
Amber and her husband David Bates have adopted
a little girl in the Marshall Islands. She is 14 months
old and her name is Ciela Michelle.
Adoption date was Friday, February 25th, 2011.
If you wish to keep up with their progress,
you can follow their blog at:

My son Josh and his wife Liz Sheppard are
expecting a child in August, 2011, so that will
make little Rhys a big brother. Rhys is 7
months old now and doing very well.
I am so excited about all this good news!
Please join me in prayers of thanksgiving and
praise for all the little children of the world.

God Bless and Keep You,
