SCRIPTURE READINGS ARE:
ISAIAH 1:1, 10-20
Isaiah addresses the Southern Kingdom, Judah,
as "Sodom and Gomorrah," offering a word of
judgment and a call to genuine repentance. His words are far from sensitive. They are
ruthless, cruel at times, scathing. They reflect a
God who is utterly fed up and will not have
anything more to do with these people until they
make a commitment to change.
ISAIAH 1:1; ISAIAH 1:10-20 (The Message)
ISAIAH 1:11 The vision that Isaiah son of Amoz saw regarding
Judah and Jerusalem during the times of the kings of
Judah: Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah.
ISAIAH 1:10-20 10 "Listen to my Message, you
Sodom-schooled leaders. Receive God's revelation,
you Gomorrah schooled people. 11 "Why this frenzy of sacrifices?" God's asking.
"Don't you think I've had my fill of burnt sacrifices,
rams and plump grain-fed calves? Don't you think
I've had my fill of blood from bulls, lambs, and goats?
12 When you come before me, who ever gave you
the idea of acting like this, Running here and there,
doing this and that - all this sheer commotion in the
place provided for worship?
13 "Quit your worship charades. I can't stand your
trivial religious games: Monthly conferences, weekly
Sabbaths, special meetings - meetings, meetings,
meetings - I can't stand one more!
14 Meetings for this, meetings for that. I hate them!
You've worn me out! I'm sick of your religion, religion,
religion, while you go right on sinning.
15 When you put on your next prayer-performance,
I'll be looking the other way. No matter how long or
loud or often you pray, I'll not be listening. And do you
know why? Because you've been tearing people to
pieces, and your hands are bloody. 16 Go home and wash up. Clean up your act. Sweep
your lives clean of your evildoings so I don't have to
look at them any longer. Say no to wrong.
17 Learn to do good. Work for justice. Help the
down-and-out. Stand up for the homeless. Go to bat
for the defenseless. Let's Argue This Out
18 "Come. Sit down. Let's argue this out." This is
God's Message: "If your sins are blood-red, they'll
be snow-white. If they're red like crimson, they'll be
like wool. 19 If you'll willingly obey, you'll feast like kings. 20 But if you're willful and stubborn, you'll die like
dogs." That's right. God says so. Those Who Walk
Out on God.

PSALM 50:1-8, 22-23 (UMH 783)
(The Message)
The sacrifice God desires is thanksgiving and
upright living.
HEBREWS 11:1-3, 8-16
"Faith is the assurance of things hoped for,
the conviction of things not seen."
Abraham's faith and that of his ancestors is
never presented as a sudden heroic decision,
but something like an undercurrent that directs
and is directed by a series of actions over time.
Faith is not something that comes as one rash
decision that changes everything from that
moment forward.
SUPERB VISION — (Read this Twice)
Human cultures have always been effective at
making insiders and outsiders of people,
rewarding those that fit arbitrary standards, and
ignoring, shunning or showing hostility toward
those who do not. The witness of the entire Bible
is that God frequently calls culture's "outsiders"
His own insiders. God refuses to play by the
rules of social culture's game. Those who live in
faith know and feel the truth in their bones.
Hebrews 11:1-3
1 The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust
in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under
everything that makes life worth living. It's our handle
on what we can't see.
2 The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors,
set them above the crowd.3 By faith, we see the world called into existence by
God's word, what we see created by what we don't see.
Hebrews 11:8-16
8 By an act of faith, Abraham said yes to God's call
to travel to an unknown place that would become his
home. When he left he had no idea where he was
going.9 By an act of faith he lived in the country promised
him, lived as a stranger camping in tents. Isaac and
Jacob did the same, living under the same promise.
10 Abraham did it by keeping his eye on an unseen
city with real, eternal foundations - the City designed
and built by God.
11 By faith, barren Sarah was able to become
pregnant, old woman as she was at the time, because
she believed the One who made a promise would do
what he said.
12 That's how it happened that from one man's dead
and shriveled loins there are now people numbering
into the millions.
13 Each one of these people of faith died not yet
having in hand what was promised, but still believing.
How did they do it? They saw it way off in the
distance, waved their greeting, and accepted the fact
that they were transients in this world.
14 People who live this way make it plain that they are
looking for their true home.
15 If they were homesick for the old country, they could
have gone back any time they wanted.
16 But they were after a far better country than that -
heaven country. You can see why God is so proud of
them, and has a City waiting for them.

LUKE 12:32-40(The Message)
Jesus teaches: Your real values are where you
put your money. This text begins with a word
of comfort that those of us who've been blown
away need to hear, if we can hear it. "Don't be
afraid, little flock. Your Father is pleased to give
you the kingdom!"
32 Don't be afraid of missing out. You're my dearest
friends! The Father wants to give you the very kingdom
itself.
33 "Be generous. Give to the poor. Get yourselves a
bank that can't go bankrupt, a bank in heaven far from
bank robbers, safe from embezzlers, a bank you can
bank on.
34 It's obvious, isn't it? The place where your treasure
is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up
being.
35 "Keep your shirts on; keep the lights on!
36 Be like house servants waiting for their master to
come back from his honeymoon, awake and ready
to open the door when he arrives and knocks.
37 Lucky the servants whom the master finds on
watch! He'll put on an apron, sit them at the table,
and serve them a meal, sharing his wedding feast
with them.
38 It doesn't matter what time of the night he
arrives; they're awake - and so blessed!
39 "You know that if the house owner had known
what night the burglar was coming, he wouldn't
have stayed out late and left the place unlocked.
40 So don't you be slovenly and careless. Just
when you don't expect him, the Son of Man will
show up."

a considerable amount of money, and
calm, patient lucidity of mind.

This may seem like a small contribution, but it is a
staggering job to bring a flooded property to life.
Many, many buckets will be used over many months.≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈
Summer is nearly over and it is time to think about
working on Ingathering Kits. The literature for
Ingathering supplies can be found on the display
tables in both churches and we will keep you
updated concerning what you could donate to help
others as Christ has helped us.
Ingathering will be at Greenfield United Methodist
Church again this year.
The first Saturday in November. Will you help us
gather much needed items and join me in attending
this event? It will include worship, opportunities for
learning from mission speakers and fellowship with
Christian brothers and sisters.≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈
Thank you for your contributions to our church life.
God Bless and Keep You.
Pastor Lynn
