MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈
SUNDAY, MAY 3OTH —
TRADITIONAL MEMORIAL DAY

Memorial Day,
the last Monday in May, is a day on
the civil calendar for remembering and honoring those
who have given their lives in battle. The day is also
known as DECLARATION DAY for the custom of
placing flags at the graves of the patriotic dead.

We have all known soldiers returning from fields of
battle across the earth. . . . brothers, sisters, spouses
uncles, fathers, dear friends. They don't say, "What
terrible carnage I have witnessed! I don't know how
anyone made it out alive! The explosion killed half of
the squad!" They don't say "Those troops were all my
very good friends. We always depended absolutely
and completely on each other."
I wonder what they think, when I complain because
I can't find the right blue dress to wear to the reception?
They don't say.
PEACE AND JUSTICE SUNDAY
Peace with Justice Sunday offering money - -
inspires us to learn and to teach others to be
kind to each
other and to treat the earth and
its people,
WITH GREAT RESPECT.
THIS IS TRINITY SUNDAY
Trinity Sunday is the first Sunday after Pentecost.
All Western liturgical churches celebrate –
Trinity Sunday:
Methodist, Roman Catholic, Anglican, and Lutheran.
A liturgy is the customary public worship done by a
specific religious group.
THE ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF "LITURGY" IS
"SERVICE."
OUR COLOR IS WHITE
SCRIPTURE READINGS ARE: PROVERBS 8:1-4, 22-31
(The Message)
Wisdom was active from before creation.
Wisdom speaks, and understanding raises her voice
to remind all of her presence with God in and
through all creation.
PROVERBS 8:1-4;
1 Do you hear Lady Wisdom calling? Can you hear
Madame Insight raising her voice?2 She's taken her stand at First and Main, at the
busiest intersection.
3 Right in the city square where the traffic is thickest,
she shouts,
4 "You! - I'm talking to all of you, everyone out here on
the streets!
PROVERBS 8:22-31
22 "God sovereignly made me - the first, the basic -
before he did anything else.
23 I was brought into being a long time ago, well before
Earth got its start.24 I arrived on the scene before Ocean, yes, even
before Springs and Rivers and Lakes.
25 Before Mountains were sculpted and Hills took
shape, I was already there, newborn;
26 Long before God stretched out Earth's Horizons,
and tended to the minute details of Soil and Weather,
27 And set Sky firmly in place, I was there. When he
mapped and gave borders to wild Oceans,
28 built the vast vault of Heaven, and installed the
fountains that fed Oceans,
29 When he drew a boundary for Seas, posted a sign
that said, no trespassing, And then staked out Earth's
foundations,
30 I was right there with him, making sure everything fit.
Day after day I was there, with my joyful applause,
always enjoying his company,
31 Delighted with the world of things and creatures,
happily celebrating the human family.PSALM 8 (UMH 743)
(The Message)
1 God, brilliant Lord, yours is a household name.
2 Nursing infants gurgle choruses about you;
toddlers shout the songs That drown out enemy
talk, and silence atheist babble.
3 I look up at your macro-skies, dark and enormous,
your handmade sky-jewelry, Moon and stars mounted
in their settings. 4 Then I look at my micro-self and wonder, Why do
you bother with us? Why take a second look our way?
5 Yet we've so narrowly missed being gods, bright
with Eden's dawn light.
6 You put us in charge of your handcrafted world,
repeated to us your Genesis-charge,
7 Made us lords of sheep and cattle, even animals
out in the wild,
8 Birds flying and fish swimming, whales singing in the
ocean deeps.
9 God, brilliant Lord, your name echoes around the
world.

ROMANS 5:1-5
(The Message)
1 By entering through faith into what God has always
wanted to do for us - set us right with him, make us fit
for him - we have it all together with God because of
our Master Jesus.
2 And that's not all: We throw open our doors to God
and discover at the same moment that he has already
thrown open his door to us. We find ourselves standing
where we always hoped we might stand - out in the wide
open spaces of God's grace and glory, standing tall and
shouting our praise.
3 There's more to come: We continue to shout our praise
even when we're hemmed in with troubles, because we
know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us,
4 and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel
of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next.
5 In alert expectancy such as this, we're never left feeling
shortchanged. Quite the contrary - we can't round up
enough containers to hold everything God generously
pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit!
Wisdom drives us into places of suffering with hope.
The character of our life in our Triune God: We are
reconciled to God through Jesus, and we boast in the
sufferings of this age because they lead us to hope in
God's love poured out upon us by the Holy Spirit.

JOHN 16:12-15
(The Message)
God who is One, yet known to us as [Father, Son, and
Spirit] , as [Way, Truth, and Life], as [Mother, Child, and
Breath], as [Reconciler, Companion, and Hope-Giver],
and so much more.

A Greek word is used - "perichoresis" (perry-cor-ee-sis).
The word literally means "dancing around" or "dancing in
a circle." Christian theologians have used it to describe
the dance of the Eternal-Three-in-One, the Triune God.
Jesus speaks of the work of the Holy Spirit, declaring to
the disciples all the truth that is his from the Father.

12 "I still have many things to tell you, but you can't
handle them now.
13 But when the Friend comes, the Spirit of the Truth,
he will take you by the hand and guide you into all the
truth there is. He won't draw attention to himself, but
will make sense out of what is about to happen and,
indeed, out of all that I have done and said.
14 He will honor me; he will take from me and deliver
it to you.
15 Everything the Father has is also mine. That is why
I've said, 'He takes from me and delivers to you.'
