REMEMBERING OUR BAPTISM
(Baptism of the Lord)
COLOR: WHITE
OUR SCRIPTURE READINGS ARE—
ISAIAH 43:1-7
(New International Reader's Version) NIRV
Jerusalem had been destroyed and many people
had been taken from Israel and scattered.
Isaiah declares God's promise to protect, ransom
and
re-gather the people Israel from all the corners
of the earth. They are not completely destroyed,
and they would be gathered again as a people.
THE LORD SAVES ISRAEL
1 Family of Jacob, the LORD created you. People
of Israel, he formed you. He says, "Do not be afraid.
I will set you free. I will send for you by name.
You belong to me.
2 You will pass through deep waters. But I will be
with you. You will pass through the rivers. But their
waters will not sweep over you. You will walk through
fire. You will not be burned. Flames will not harm you.
3 I am the LORD your God. I am the Holy One of
Israel. I am the one who saves you. I will give up
Egypt to set you free.
I will give up Cush and Seba for you.
4 You are priceless to me. I love you and honor you.
So I will trade other people for you. I will give up
other nations to save your lives.
5 Do not be afraid. I am with you. I will return your
people from the east. I will bring you from the west.
6 I will say to the north, 'Let them go!' And I will say
to the south, 'Do not hold them back.' Bring my sons
from far away. Bring my daughters from the farthest
places on earth.
7 Bring back everyone who belongs to me. I created
them to bring me glory. I formed them and made them."

PSALM 29 (UMH 761)
(New Living Translation) NLT
The voice of the LORD speaks, and all heaven
and nature shake and stand in awe. The power
of the lightning equals the terror of the thunder.
The fear caused by these effects of the Divine
power, should remind us of the mighty power of
God. The stoutest are made to tremble, the
proudest are cast down, the secrets of the heart
are brought to light, sinners are converted, the
savage, sensual, and unclean, become harmless,
gentle, and pure.

A PSALM OF DAVID
1 Honor the Lord, you heavenly beings;
honor the Lord for his glory and strength.
2 Honor the Lord for the glory of his name.
Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.
3 The voice of the Lord echoes above the sea.
The God of glory thunders.
The Lord thunders over the mighty sea.
4 The voice of the Lord is powerful;
the voice of the Lord is majestic.
5 The voice of the Lord splits the mighty cedars;
the Lord shatters the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He makes Lebanon’s mountains skip like a calf;
he makes Mount Hermon leap like a young ox.
7 The voice of the Lord strikes
with bolts of lightning.
8 The voice of the Lord makes the barren
wilderness quake;
the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
9 The voice of the Lord twists mighty oaks
and strips the forests bare.
In his Temple everyone shouts, “Glory!”
10 The Lord rules over the flood waters.
The Lord reigns as king forever.
11 The Lord gives his people strength.
The Lord blesses them with peace.

ACTS 8:14-17
(Amplified Bible) AB
Simon Magus was ambitious to have the honor of
an apostle, but cared not at all to have the spirit
and
disposition of a Christian. He was more
desirous to
gain honor for himself, than to do good
to others.
Peter shows him his crime. He esteemed
the wealth
of this world, as if it would answer for
things he
needed. The baptism in water begun in
Samaria is
completed when Peter and John lay
hands on the
baptized that they may receive the
Holy Spirit.

14 Now when the apostles (special messengers) at
Jerusalem heard that the country of Samaria had
accepted and welcomed the Word of God, they sent
Peter and John to them,
15 And they came down and prayed for them that
the Samaritans might receive the Holy Spirit;
16 For He had not yet fallen upon any of them, but
they were only baptized into the name of the Lord.
17 Then the apostles laid their hands on them one
by one, and they received the Holy Spirit.

LUKE 3:21-22 (NLT)
THE BAPTISM OF JESUS
21 One day when the crowds were being baptized,
Jesus himself was baptized.
As he was praying, the heavens opened,
22 and the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on
him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, “You
are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.”

TUESDAY, JANUARY 12TH —
Adair U.M.C. Bible Study meets 9 A.M. to 11 A.M.
We are having a six week "WOMEN OF THE BIBLE"
program. Every culture the world over has it's own
set of expectations — in 2010 as for thousands of
years before. One woman considered a shining
example of perfection in a certain culture may be held
reprehensible in another.
We welcome everyone to these meetings.
T.T.T. #1 is meeting at Casey U.M.C. at 3:30 P.M.

Currently we are having a bit of a slow down.
I hear
of experiences of being stuck in snow drifts,
falling on the ice, sliding off the road, breaking water
pipes, dead batteries and jelling fuel tanks in this
extreme cold. Take this weather very seriously
because a misjudgment concerning time, place, or
event can cause a life threatening experience. An
example would be the young man in Des Moines who
walked out on his front porch and accidently locked
the door behind himself. Hours later a passing bus
driver noticed him lying on the porch - not moving.
Thanks to that vigilant driver, the boy will
recover - minus a frostbitten toe.

Make it a priority to take care of yourselves - and
each other.
God Bless and Keep You
Pastor Lynn
