FIFTY DAYS OF EASTER
The Easter season isn't just Easter Sunday. It's 50 days
long, and the last of those days is Pentecost, marking
the birth of the Church and the coming of the Holy Spirit
with power. May 31 is Pentecost, the culmination of the
Great 50 Days of Eastertide.

Our Scripture Readings For Today:
ACTS 4:5-12 (New International Version) NIV
The story of the apostles' arrest, incarceration
and trial in Luke brings us "down to earth." The
apostles were interrupted in their preaching by
the sudden, appearance of hostile officials.
The leaders who had Peter arrested for healing
the lame man and proclaiming the resurrection
of Jesus demand by what authority he acted.
Peter boldly proclaimed it was by the power and
name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
5 The next day the rulers, elders and teachers of the
law met in Jerusalem.
6 Annas the high priest was there, and so were
Caiaphas, John, Alexander and the other men of the
high priest's family.
7 They had Peter and John brought before them and
began to question them: "By what power or what name
did you do this?"
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them:
"Rulers and elders of the people! 9If we are being called
to account today for an act of kindness shown to a cripple
and are asked how he was healed,
10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by
the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified
but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands
before you healed.
11 "He is 'the stone you builders rejected, which has
become the capstone.
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other
name under heaven given to men by which we must be
saved."PSALM 23 (UMH 754) (King James Version) KJV In these words, the believer is taught to express
his satisfaction in the care of the great Pastor of
the universe, the Redeemer and Preserver of men.
1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths
of righteousness for his name's sake.4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow
of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy
rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence
of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil;
my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the
days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the
LORD for ever.

1 JOHN 3:16-24
(New International Reader's Version) NIRV
The Holy Spirit, grieved at selfishness, will leave
the selfish heart without comfort, and full of
darkness and terror. By the authority and power
of the Risen Christ we are led to love not in words
only, but also in truth and in action.
16 We know what love is because Jesus Christ gave
his life for us. So we should give our lives for our brothers
and sisters.
17 Suppose someone sees a brother or sister in need
and is able to help them. If he doesn't take pity on them,
how can the love of God be in him?
18 Dear children, don't just talk about love. Put your
love into action. Then it will truly be love.
19 That's how we know that we hold to the truth. And
that's how we put our hearts at rest, knowing that
God is watching.20 Our hearts may judge us. But God is greater than
our hearts. He knows everything.
21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not judge us, we can
be bold with God.
22 And he will give us anything we ask. That's because
we obey his commands. We do what pleases him.
23 God has commanded us to believe in the name of
his Son, Jesus Christ. He has also commanded us to
love one another.
24 Those who obey his commands remain joined to
him. And he remains joined to them.
How do we know that God lives in us? We know it
because of the Holy Spirit he gave us.

JOHN 10:11-18
(New International Reader's Version) NIRV
Christ is a good Shepherd; many who were not
thieves, yet were careless in their duty, and by
their neglect the flock was much hurt. Bad
principles are the root of bad practices. The
Lord Jesus knows whom he has chosen, and is
sure of them; they also know whom they have
trusted, and are sure of Him.The authority of the
Risen Lord, the Good Shepherd over his flock,
comes from knowing his sheep by name, caring
for them, and laying down his own life to protect
them.
11 "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd
gives his life for the sheep.12 The hired man is not the shepherd who owns the
sheep. So when the hired man sees the wolf coming,
he leaves the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf
attacks the flock and scatters it.
13 The man runs away because he is a hired man.
He does not care about the sheep.
14 "I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep, and
my sheep know me.
15 They know me just as the Father knows me and
I know the Father. And I give my life for the sheep.
16 "I have other sheep that do not belong to this sheep
pen. I must bring them in too. They also will listen to my
voice. Then there will be one flock and one shepherd.
17 "The reason my Father loves me is that I give up
my life. But I will take it back again.
18 No one takes it from me. I give it up myself. I have
the authority to give it up. And I have the authority to
take it back again. I received this command from my
Father."

Just a reminder: The individuals scheduled to polish our
image in Adair, are Donna Sheeder and Louise Arter.
Thank you, Donna — Thank you, Louise.
FUTURE FOCUS —
This is the time to think about summer camp. We
have been collecting quarters at a furious pace this
winter. Does anyone remember what we do with those
quarters? (I'll give you a minute to think about it.)
Stop in the office or call us if you have any questions
or need brochures.
Plans are developing for Bible School this summer
but they are not yet crystal clear. We are open to
suggestions and helpers.
Thank you all for your contributions to our church life
this week. You do realize, without you, the wheels
would fall off and everything would be very . . . still.
God Bless and Keep You,
Pastor Lynn
