Genesis 28:10 -19a — (NIV)
Jacob's Dream at Bethel

10 Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran.
11 When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep.12 He had a dream in which he saw a stairway [a] resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.13 There above it stood the LORD, and he said: "I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.
14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.

15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."
16 When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, "Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it."
17 He was afraid and said, "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven."

18 Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. 19 He called that place Bethel, [c] though the city used to be called Luz.

Psalm 139:1-12, 23-24 (UMH 854) (NIV)
1 O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my
thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it
completely, O LORD.

5 You hem me in—behind and before; you have laid your
hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for
me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from
your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed
in the depths, [a] you are there.

9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side
of the sea,

10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will
hold me fast.
11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light
become night around me,"
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will
shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
PSALM 139: 23-24
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know
my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the
way everlasting.

Romans 8:12-25 (Amplified Bible)
12 So then, brethren, we are debtors, but not to the flesh [we are not obligated to our carnal nature], to live [a life ruled by the standards set up by the dictates] of the flesh.

13 For if you live according to the dictates of the flesh, you will surely die. But if through the power of the Holy Spirit you are habitually putting to death (making extinct, deadening) the [evil] deeds prompted by the body, you sh
all, really and genuinely, live forever.

14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

15 For the Spirit which you have now received is not a spirit of slavery to
put you once more in bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] in the bliss in which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father!

16 The Spirit Himself thus testifies together with our own spirit, assuring
us that we are children of God.

17 And if we are His children, then we are His heirs also: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ sharing His inheritance with Him; only we must share His suffering if we are to share His glory.

18 But what of that? For I consider that the sufferings of this present time (this
present life) are not worth being compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us and for us and conferred on us!

19 For even the whole creation (all nature) waits expectantly and longs earnestly for God's sons to be made known - waits for the revealing, the disclosing of their sonship.

20 For the creation (nature) was subjected to frailty (to futility, condemned to frustration), not because of some intentional fault on its part, but by the will of Him Who so subjected it - yet with the hope

21 That nature (creation) itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and corruption [and gain an entrance] into the glorious freedom of God's children.

22 We know that the whole creation of irrational creatures has been moaning together in the pains of labor until now.

23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves too, who have and enjoy the first fruits of the Holy Spirit a foretaste of the blissful things to come groan inwardly as we wait for the redemption of our bodies from
sensuality and the grave, which will reveal our adoption (our manifestation as God's sons).

24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope which is seen is not hope. For how can one hope for what he already sees?

25 But if we hope for what is still unseen by us, we wait for it with patience and composure.

Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43 (NASB)
Tares among Wheat

24 Jesus presented another parable to them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field.
25 "But while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed [a]tares among the wheat, and went away.
26 "But when the wheat sprouted and bore grain, then the tares became evident also.

27 "The slaves of the landowner came and said to him, 'Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?'
28 "And he said to them, 'An enemy has done this!' The slaves said to him, 'Do you want us, then, to go and gather them up?'
29 "But he said, 'No; for while you are gathering up the tares, you may uproot the wheat with them.
30 'Allow both to grow together until the harvest; and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, "First gather up the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them up; but gather the wheat into my barn."

36 Then He left the crowds and went into the house And His disciples came to Him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field." 37 And He said, "The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man,
38 and the field is the world; and as for the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil one;

39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels.

40 "So just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be
at the end of the age.
41 "The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of
His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness,
42 and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
43 "Then THE RIGHTEOUS WILL SHINE FORTH AS THE SUN in the kingdom of their Father He who has ears, let him hear.
